I have resolved myself to the fact that I am a girl who likes it both ways. My hair that is!
I know you for a split second you thought this post was going to be a a bit juicier than it is.. but don’t worry.. you will walk away from this feeling quite satisfied!
Okay back to the post….
I am not a natural girl all the way and I’m not a straight flat iron girl all the way. I love everything in between and that’s the fun of hair right? Last week when I posted about my cocktail for curly hair.. I got so may of you thanking me for the suggestions, that this week I thought I would do a post about my “cocktail” for my super shiny blowouts.
First let me say.. I get it from my momma! Growing up my mom did all kinds of hair and she always always had a new cocktail to add strength and shine to everyone’s blowout. Let’s face it.. every woman and girl knows that one singe product alone never ever does the trick.
So I thought I’d share my “cocktail” for a ultra shiny blowout whether you go to the salon or not because I am the type of girl who even if I go to the salon I wash and condition my own hair right before I go.
…and here’s why..
Everyone’s hair is different, Yes! But there’s one commonality that all hair wants… and that’s to be healthy! So to that I say…CONDITIONER, CONDITIONER, CONDITIONER! Conditioner is always the key. Yet what I didn’t understand for a longtime was that SHAMPOO is also the key!
Lets face it. Shampoo is not so great for our hair. But who want’s to walk around with dirty unwashed hair? Not this gal! …and I know that my hair never turns out right with shampoo alone. That’s why a moisturizing cocktail that also has protein is the best thing for everyone’s hair. You heard it. EVERYONE’S HAIR. Especially girls with textured and curly hair that want to take it straight every week or once in a while.
So here are a group of products I am loving right now that make their way into my cocktail..
SHAMPOO..
So for me, no shiny hair is complete without a combination of regular shampoo and cleansing conditioner. When I wear my hair curly I primarily use cleansing conditioner and when I want to wear my hair straight, I wash with regular shampoo first and then my last wash or two is with a cleansing conditioner.
CONDITIONER
For those of us who have hard to blowout hair, textured hair or thick hair, always always always use a hair mask. I use a mask, then rinse it out. Then I use an every day conditioner on top add a protein conditioner like Olyplex to my end and my edges, and rinse that out.
The key to all of this is how long you leave it on. I never leave my conditioner on for less than 15 minutes and I try to leave it on for an hour or so. If I’m going to the salon to get my hair blown out I wash my hair at home, put my conditioner on, cover it with a shower cap and get dressed. Then I head over to the salon and that way my conditioner sits on for at least 45 minutes. Same for when you’re at home doing your own blowout. The longer your conditioner stays on the healthier your hair is gonna look and feel.
Conditioner is like food for your hair and just as your body needs food to function, so does your hair.
STYLING
For me the most important part of styling are the products used before you blowdry. The seep int your hair shaft while it is still wet to help protect your hair, help nourish your hair and help prevent heat damage. Not to mention they are the key to lasting shine.
….But don’t get me wrong, there are two steps to styling.. The before and the after..
The after for me is hair spray.. eiter before or after you use your heat tools. Preferably something with a light hold.. That way your blowout will stay soft but also lat for 3-4 days.
Here are some of my faves..
