6 piercings.  That’s how many my mom had in each ear when I was kid.. And I have to say that I was completely in awe.. I remember she had this set of beautiful tear drop shaped earrings that starred big at the first piercing and progressively got smaller as they ascended up her ear.

So it’s no surprise that she pierced my ears herself and did it pretty early ..And I can remember it to this day like it was yesterday.  The day she pierced my ears, I was about 3 or 4 years old.  She had this little clamp like metal piercing contraption that resembled a hole puncher.  She handed me a Popsicle as to distract me and bam one click per ear and it was over.  

I’ve been hooked ever since..

Cut to  (we won’t discuss how many) years later.. And I am back at it.

.. And so many of you want to know all about it.. So I said to myself.. Self..  Why not share..

So I ask an LA piercer 7 quick and to the point questions. Things we all need to know…

Me: Mall piercings. Good or bad?
Piercer: Bad

Me:Three things you should never do once you get your piercing?
Piercer: Touch it, over clean it, get into a bar fight.

Me: What’s the max number of piercings a person should get in one session?
Piercer: There is no max. Depends on your wallet, maturity and pain threshold.

Me: Do you only use the jewelry from your shop?
Piercer: No. If I think it’s safe to put in your body I will pierce you with it.

Me: Never clean a piercing with…?
Piercer: Alcohol and/or your grandma’s secret solution. (every body’s grandma has one)

Me: Never get pierced with….?
Piercer: Cheap jewelry.

Me: How long does it take to heal before you can change the earring out?
Piercer: Generally 6 to 8 weeks. Patience is key.

Me: Any last comments?
Piercer:Remember there is no “right or wrong” way to decorate your ear.  Do what feels good to you!
