The Bold and the Beautiful.. SAG Awards 2013

After watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night I felt compelled to salute the ladies who took risks and won..

In a sea of red carpets where everyone is starting to look Like cookie cutter versions of each other..these ladies strayed from the obvious and wow’d it in a beautiful way.

But first a tiny backstory:

I became a member of the Screen Actors Guild way back in 2003 (pause for reaction, and countless commercials, a few TV appearances and one homeless crack addict later (yes I played a homeless crack addict in a film that we should all forget) (AGAIN PAUSE FOR REACTION,  I have to say this is by far was one of the best SAG awards I remember.  I won’t tell you who I voted for.. but let’s just say.. my vote actually counted..  Yay Claire Danes!

Anyhow..

There is something to be said about taking risks.. being an actor the two phrases that we hear more than any are:

1. Make a Choice
2. Take a Risk
With that said I concentrate this post on the ladies of the 2013 SAG awards that I adore not only for their immense talent.. but for their courage to take a wardrobe risk.. And contrary to popular belief I think these ladies hit it straight out of the park.
My favorite of the night was Julie Bowen in Australian designer Johanna Johnson.. How freaking ballsy was it for her to wear a leather gown!
Since I am having trouble finding the words to describe this Johanna Johnson gown and how great Julie Bowen looks in it I thought I would steal straight from my handy Thesaurus..
..so here goes.. Julie Bowen looks

astounding, surprising, stunning, staggering, shocking, startling, stupefying, breathtaking; awesome, awe-inspiring, sensational, remarkable, spectacular, stupendous, phenomenal, extraordinary, incredible, unbelievable; informal mind-blowing, jaw-dropping; literary wondrous.

I’m pretty sure you get my point ….

Beautifully structured..modern with a 1920 feel and completely different than any other dress on the carpet.  I die.

Here is the dress on the runway and Julie looks just as amazing as the model.

Johanna Johnson black leather gown  Spring Summer 2013 Red Carpet Collection
And now in no particular order.. The rest of my favorites from the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013..
Marion Cotillard in Doir.. Simple yet unexpected.. Feminine yet  structured and the pointed toe pump and the geometric bob set the entire look.  She looks simplyy beautiful.

Claire Danes in Givenchy.. I may not always lust after her red carpet looks but what Claire Danes does and does right is stick to looks that look great on her.  This one shoulder Givenchy is a stunner. It hides all the wrong stuff and highlights all the good stuff.  But aside from her dress I have to touch on her make up.. In a pile of bright red lips and smoky eyes..Claire Danes went the exact opposite route.. I adore her dark berry lip and her barley there eyes.  Flawless!

Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli..It’s the right combo of sweet, flirty and sexy.  Although the fit up top is slightly askew I applaud her risk.. The platform patent leather open toe sandals add a sweet fun not so serious vibe that I absolutely adore!

Giuliana Rancic in Max Azria Atelia.. To date this is the best I have ever seen her look.  Perfect electric blue..perfect shoulder..perfect fit and the side swipe hair brings it all together.. This dress gives just the right amount of shape and curve her her body. As a host.. she was making some of the attendees look bad.. Yay Guiliana!!

Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab. Now I am not sure if I have ever shared that I am a die hard Vampire Diaries fan.  It brings out my inner 16 year old.  So to see Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab looking absolutely perfect made me smile.  This dress is beautiful in every way. From the bright pink color to the hint of lace that trails the side of her perfect figure Nina Rocked the red carpet in every way a girl can rock the red carpet.

Julianna Margulies in Chado Ralph Rucci.. Now to be honest I don’t know this designer but what I do know is that she looks incredible. I am not a fan this phrase.. but the words “age appropriate”, yet fun and flirty are all components that set this look off.  Black and white always screams classy.  I would have opted for a different shoe.. but hey..  The dress shows just enough of her amazing figure to make me come running for more.. Super cute and very unexpected..

Rose Byrne in Valentino ..Now I know I may catch some flack for this one ..But I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS DRESS!   I adore the colors..the flowers..the ruffles and the fact that she stands out.. She looks like a confident movie star circa the 1940’s.  Simple beautiful!

I add Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta to my list because this is the best she has ever looked.. I literally did a double take.. Body..AMAZING.. Hair..PERFECT.. Dress..TO DIE FOR..  Belt ORGASMIC.. I need it I want it!  and yes I just referred to a belt as orgasmic!

What where your favorites?
