Vidal Sassoon

This is an inspiration post..and sort of a nostalgic post all mixed in..
As I sat in bed all day yesterday.. and watch brain draining amounts of television (seriously I think I gotta slightly dumber) flipping through channels..I happened upon a wonderful documentary that made it all worth it.
Vidal Sassoon: The Movie
As I watched his incredible iconic life story, I couldn’t help but to think “what mark will I leave in this world”
..But that’s a whole different post..back to Mr. Sassoon..
Little Back Story:
The day I finished high school.. I walked over to the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica.. straight into the Vidal Sassoon Academy and had a young cosmetology student chop off all my hair.  I know..that could have gone terribly wrong..I had more guts back then!  Anyhow.  My mom was mortified.  I was liberated.  I have always had fairly long hair… and as a black women we are unfortunately taught that long hair brings some type of glory.  Thus it seems that so many of us strive, struggle and often go with terrible split ends to hold on to that so called “glorious length”.
I spent the next 5 1/2 years with hair that varied between 1 to 2 1/2 inches long..
Absolutely Fantastic..I recommend that every woman chop their hair at least once in her lifetime.

So as I watched this wonderful documentary about the man who changed the face of hair and hair dressing forever.. I was completely inspired..not to cut my hair off again.. but just to follow my gut.. my instincts..my own ideas!
And as I watched the various hair cuts that Mr. Sassoon completed with the precision of an architect.. I couldn’t help but to notice that so many of the cuts were timeless.  Like great fashion..a girl could take the famous Grace Coddington Five point cut today and it would wow the best of them.
So I leave you with some of my favorite Sassoon Cuts and the trailer for the film.. the film is running on cable now..don’t miss it

1960’s
1965

Mary Quant 1960’s

Vidal doing it in the 80’s

Still Timeless in the 1990’s
The legendary & stunning Peggy Moffett
The iconic Nancy Kwan bob

I hope this brings you as much inspiration as it did me ..
