Chef Alex’s Chicken Taco’s
Taco’s de Camarones Frito’s
Braised Beef Short Ribs Birria
And sexy this little Casa is!!
Never mind that I was almost an hour late to the private dinner party I was so generously invited to. The dinner party that was to debut Chef Alex Moreno’s new menu for this year and a half old Downtown LA establishment. Never mind that that the navigation in my recently returned from the body shop car went haywire. Never mind that I passed the restaurant that was in plain sight about eight times before my flustered, famished self realized I was indeed on the right street…NEVERMIND ALL THAT..
..Because once the first bite hit my tongue..I was in love!!! And everyone knows when you fall in love all else goes out the window (or is that just me?)
Okay lets talk tacos, tacos and more… you guessed it.. tacos. My grandma makes tacos..really good ones and until now I was hooked on her turkey, cheese pan fried taco’s with copious amounts Louisiana hot sauce (I’m creole people what do you expect!!)
Umm Yeah…these ain’t your grandma’s tacos. They have attitude. They have pizazz and most important..Flavor. Flavor. Flavor. Really refined delicious flavor! If they were a pair of heels..I would rock them like everyday!
Shall I start with the Taco’s de Camarones Frito’s. Yeah I don’t speak Spanish either, allow me to explain..
Lightly battered and fried Mexican Shrimp tossed in a spicy crema, served with caramelized pineapple, cabbage and house candied almonds all in a flour tortilla. Drooling yet?
Shall I keep going?
Carnitas… Translation: confit of pork shoulder, served with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, Pickled red onions and a chile guajillo sauce with a lime crema.
I know..I know..I had to pick my jaw up off the floor too.
Oh what? you’re a vegetarian?.. Never fear..
Tacos de Mercado: Squash Blossom molcajete, grilled Gloria Farm’s corn and market zucchini finished with a queso fresco..
Ohhhh yeah.. I said it!
Not only is the new menu amazing, the drinks are killer too!! On a tight Budget? Let me tell you, the prices make you all warm and fuzzy inside. Ranging from $5 to $18 bucks.. and If that isn’t enough they have HAPPY HOUR 🙂 Hows that for a night out!
