Let’s talk Imagawa Yaki..or as we Americans call it , Red Bean Cakes..
I’ve had red bean ice cream, I’ve heard of red bean paste but I had actually never heard of a red bean cake before last week. I was completely intrigued as I looked through the window of the Mitsuru Cafe. Totally in awe I watched this little Japanese lady flip pint sized pancakes with a wooden stick (no bigger than a toothpick) inside this beautiful copper colored cast iron pan/cupped skillet/open faced waffle iron. Hello!!!..I had to try one..that and the fact that I was completely starving 🙂
What a little treat! At $1.25 each, it was a wonderful mini hot sweet snack. Nothing like I had ever tasted.. and being the sweets freak that I am I have tasted lots of different treats..
